Remembering What We Have

The prayers found in the New Testament contain some of the most precious reminders in scripture.   Take 2 Corinthians 13:14 for example: “May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all”.                 Paul begins by focusing on the grace that is found in Christ.   Sometimes, churches shy away from talking about grace because they worry that if it is too prominent then people will not take discipleship seriously.   There is a concern that people will, “Keep on sinning so God can keep on forgiving” (Romans 6:1).                   While that danger does exist, we face an even greater problem if we try to alter the message and that is that we have nothing else to offer.   Grace is our message!   The grace of Christ is the only entry point into the blessings of God (John

Remembering What We Have (2 Corinthians 13:14)

In a year where we have lost a lot, maybe it is time to remember what can never be lost.

One Good Thing (# 121): Bold as a Lion (Proverbs 28:1)

Everyone has their moments, but fear should not be tone of the Christian life. Instead, we are to be marked by boldness. Here is why....

One Good Thing (#120)... A Godly Character (Proverbs 3:15-17)

The book of Proverbs was given so that we would learn to think like God... value what he values... and react as he would react. That training starts now!

Two Stories and a Point

How sin works, why it works and where to find the cure.

One Good Thing.... Episode 119: Finding the Right Power Source

Plugging electronics into the wrong power source often results in catastrophic failure. Relying on the incorrect power source for your life is equally harmful.

One Good Thing.... Episode 118: Starting a Fight is Easy.... But Don't Do It!!

It is easy to lose your temper. It is easy to focus only on your side of the story. It is also dangerous and unwise to do those things.

You Do Not Have to React

Someone once asked Wayne Gretzky what made him such a good hockey player and he said, “I skate to where the puck is going to be, not to where it has been”.                   I like that quote because it speaks about making good decisions and being intentional rather than being reactionary.   That has been a hard lesson for me to learn.                 For most of my life, I have lived in a reactionary mode.   When people would come to me with a request or a demand, I would often drop everything and do what they wanted me to do.   If someone was upset about something, I felt pressured to try to solve their problem, or at least be equally as upset as they were, whether I cared or not.                   The problem with living a reactionary life is that you spend your time focused on what is urgent rather than what is im

Like a Mother with her little Children

The Bible is full of patterns that we know and follow. Here is one pattern that we have missed. We need to see it and put it into practice.

One Good Thing.... Episode 117: Keep Going!

Endurance... the ability to just keep going... is one of the most important qualities for success in any area

One Good Thing.... Episode 116: Intentional not Reactive

We should respond to people's needs... but we should not be pushed around by their demands.

The Crossroads: Dealing with Sadness, Fear and Faith

Faith does not eliminate times of sadness or fear. However, it should change how we go through those times. A message of hope from John 4
